Kids read to cats
Cats are patient listeners who don't correct mistakes, making them perfect companions for young readers. In our 'Kids Read to Cats' project, our feline friends play a vital role in boosting the children's reading confidence and sparking enthusiasm for books and stories.
Reading is an essential skill, serving as a gateway to the world, fostering creativity, and imparting knowledge. While it's often taken for granted, it's a skill that must be learned and practiced. Primary school students who face reading challenges can read without interruption to our furry friends in our cozy cat rooms. This not only improves their reading skills and passion for books in the long run but also imparts valuable lessons on understanding the needs and quirks of cats and teaching them how to interact respectfully with animals. For our cats, the visits provide a welcome change from everyday life at the shelter and in some cases, the children's calm voices might even draw shy cats from their hiding places.
